Wednesday Word: inane

inane

[iˈnān]

ADJECTIVE

  1. silly; stupid. "don't constantly badger people with inane questions" synonyms: silly · foolish · stupid · fatuous · idiotic · absurd · ridiculous · ludicrous · laughable · risible

ORIGIN

mid 16th century: from Latin inanis ‘empty, vain’.

Another wonderful word. It means something to which we refer often, but need a word that is on a different intellectual plane than "you're being stupid". "Your being inane" sounds soooo much better!
