Just as Alice fell down the rabbit hole, so have I done many a time through my stream of consciousness. As the magnificent song by The Fixx says, "One Thing leads to Another". One example is from today, when I was watching the Disney movie "Cruella". I loved the costumes, so I looked up who the designer was. With that, I remembered the famous costume director Edith Head, and went to her biography. I saw that she was awarded a record eight Academy Awards. I then wondered about other records in the Academy Award history.
The pandemic made its own history. Then there is the first black woman to win, in any category. The first woman to win as director. The most widely viewed streaker was during the Oscar ceremony of 1974, which, it turns out, was probably staged. There are a lot of history-making award presentations.
Then I returned to Edith Head, who was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. I looked at the notable internments and didn't find Edith mentioned. Then I realized that there are six cemeteries and four mortuaries in Southern California as part of this "chain" of last resting places. Of course, I looked at the one in Hollywood Hills first. It had its own page! And there were subpages based on the letters of the alphabet. WOW!
Steve Allen, Gene Autry, Tom Bosley, David Carradine.
Wait a minute. David Carradine. Wasn't there some controversy surrounding his death?
Why, yes! Yes, there was! He was found dead in Thailand, a country famous for catering to deviant sexual practices. The "Barefoot Legend" was found dead in a Bangkok hotel, naked, hanging by his neck. The story I read mentioned a forensic scientist named Pornthip Rojanasunan, calling her a "celebrity pathologist". What?!
Yes! Into my "rabbit hole" fell this Thai forensic pathologist and medical doctor. Punk rock hair dyed various colors depending on her mood, eccentric clothing, and glam make-up, she was a journalist's dream! She determined, with others, that Carradine's death was not a suicide.
Wait. Where was I? I started by watching "Cruella", loved the outfits, and ended up with a celebrity forensic pathologist.
But wait! There is more. One of the last songs to play on the Cruella soundtrack was "Sympathy for the Devil" by The Rolling Stones. Don't even get me started on THAT one! That's another story for another post. Suffice it to say that there is a BOOK involved!!
