Wonder what authors think of their work being challenged? Let's listen!
I couldn't believe it when I saw that Captain Underpants books topped the list, not once, but TWICE! Author Dav Pilkey offers some very good practical suggestions on what to do if you don't like a book.
Beloved coming-of-age novelist John Green's response is entertaining:
Sherman Alexie is the winner of the 2010 PEN/Faulkner Award, the 2007 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature, the 2001 PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story, and a Special Citation for the 1994 PEN/Hemingway Award for Best First Fiction. He is also one of the most frequently challenged authors in America. Watch Alexie discuss book banning, censorship, and the erotic novel to which one would-be book banner compared his young adult novel. He has been on the list every year since 2010.
And, finally, Judy Blume says it perfectly, "It's a good thing to read."
